I’m getting more and more chatter on the street from folks who are unhappy with their investment options.
John Phipps, Illinois farmer/friend, recently posted ‘there aren’t many attractive (safe, rewarding, understandable) places to put cash these days’.
It appears that a broader segment of the American public – those folks with pensions and savings accounts – are seeing either minimal returns (less than 1%) or risking ‘investment black holes’ (abstract ‘what the heck is this really invested’ investment products).
Perhaps Mitt Romney’s business/personal life is also aiding the public awareness of how special privilege makes ‘making money on money’ a rich persons’ sport.
Anywho….it seems there is an opportunity in there! Can local communities structure and manage ‘knowable’ regional investments with low risks and sustainable returns? Can we also change investment and banking law to make community based investing legally practical?
Hello Mr. Pace, if I may, I’d like to chime in here a bit. While I’m not any kind of professional financial adviser, or even a fan of free market economics at the moment, I’m a writer and exposed to a fair amount of information. I can’t comment on local communities and regional low risk stuff, but I believe I may have an exciting answer for general investment concerns.
In the last few months a few things have happened on the periphery which hold the key for serious investors; the future of our species. SpaceX, the first private space rocket company, successfully pulled off a public sector job to the International Space Station. Then, even more recently the company picked up a multi-billion dollar contract from NASA to continue on.
SpaceX is owned by a man named Elon Musk. The reason I know about all this is because I wrote and self-published an unauthorized biography of him on Kindle named “Stepping on Mars” Strangely enough, we just landed on that planet!
SpaceX, according to Elon Musk himself, is set to offer an IPO next year. If I actually had any money, I would look into not only SpaceX, but his electric car company Tesla, which is already picking up contracts with such companies as Toyota. I believe Tesla is the future of green automobile engines.
While the present doesn’t have much to offer in the realm of traditional investment tools, a bright future is emerging nonetheless.
Cheers and all the best,
Damien
